Living Room GLOW UP

I know we’re all here for the before and after pics along with the details on where everything is from, so I’ll do my best to make this short and sweet!

We’ve lived in our house for over 3 years now, and while we love the uniqueness of our house, we just haven’t been happy with our space. And I think that’s because it’s been overcrowded and darkened by all of our 7+ year-old black modern Ikea furniture. Which just simply isn’t us anymore.

We have had family staying with us for a while and they just moved out so we decided it was the perfect time to take back our space and make it something we truly love.

That’s exactly what we did.

Our goals for the space were to:

  • Brighten it up

  • Decrease the clutter

  • Better utilize the space

  • Make it cozier and homier

And I think we nailed all of our goals.

We created this space with mostly all new stuff. We saved, we splurged, we DIYed. And we knocked it out in a weekend!

I’ve added links to as many exact items as possible, but a lot of the items were purchased at Marshall’s - so I found links for items as close as I could find!

*Keep in mind we rent, so all changes had to be things that were added to the house, nothing structural.

SO HERE WE GO...

Desk from Marshall’s, I found an almost identical one HERE.
Knit ottoman from Marshall’s, I think this is the same one!
Large planter from Marshall’s, I found a set that includes it here.
Desk lamp from World Market.
Blue planter is old, but I found a similar one in white here.

This accent chair is comfy AF, super soft, cat approved, and was a great deal compared to other chairs. We found it at World Market.
Planter from Marshall’s, similar one found here.

As for the plants…

The Fiddle Leaf Fig was found at Lowe’s. My Costco currently has baby Fiddle Figs for $14.99 if you’re looking for one!
The Snake Plant was older from Home Depot. And the rest were found at farmer’s markets or local nurseries.

THE DIY…

The wall-shelves were a DIY project and we are super happy with how they turned out. You can barely tell from the front, but each shelf is actually a different depth so they can hold different sized books. The widest is on the top, then they descend as they go down. We got the wood from Home Depot and then used a stain to get the coloring. We got the shelf brackets from Home Depot as well, but I think these are the same ones.

If you look at the before pictures, you’ll spy a green metal cabinet - and now it is totally transformed. This piece was originally found by my husband at his work about to be thrown out. Naturally he snagged it. We used to keep our DVD collection in it, but realized they were taking up way too much space. We put them in an album and now we use the above area of the cabinet for printer paper, paper work, and odd office supplies that don’t fit in my desk. As you can see, the printer lies below which is the best space we’ve been able to come up with in which its accessible and not a total eye sore.

We got the paint at Home Depot and simply painted over the cabinet! I believe we did a total of 2 coats and BAM MAGIC.
